Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) {spoiler alert}

I watched this because I plan to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 in the theatre next month. I still haven’t gotten into the whole Marvel/DC movies obsession further than Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Guardians of the Galaxy is an encouraging place to start.

It is a lot of fun, lots of good use of CGI and has a good, comprehensible pace without growing boring at any time of the story.

I did not recognise Bradley Cooper as Rocket at all. That revelation left me disoriented. This is the second time I am watching Dave Bautista on screen after Spectre and he suits the part.

I’m expecting they will reveal more about Quill and his father in Vol 2 because that is what I’m looling forward to. I haven’t read the comics – maybe I should.

Groot’s demise was sad (Vin Diesel, by the way, is completely recognisable as Groot). But Baby Groot looks like a lot more fun.

Also, I was quite intrigued by Nebula (Karen Gillan) and hers was the most aesthetically pleasing character. Since I didn’t see her blown to smithereens, I’m expecting her to make a comeback as well. And Thanos as well.

I’m curious about how many more Infinity Stones are there and if the next volume is based on that as well. I should really pick up the comics.

James Gunn has directed the Vol 2 as well so I’m expecting it to be as entertaining as the first one. Interestingly, the cinematography was done by Ben Davis, who also worked on Doctor Strange. That is why the movie looks so good.
